More modern operating system require that you use a password in W2K if
you go that route.
You said: I had forgotten the Shared folder step. I did that, restarted,
etc. but it doesn't show up.
There is no restart necessary. When you have accomplished the steps I
described, the setup is immediately available, and if you save state and
close the W2K session normally (from start menu), it keeps the shared
folders that were initialized. Take care that you do not lose the
information that is already in the virtual machine between sessions.

I am now trying 'bridged' networking. This results in a win2000
computer being visible on my host network. But I can't access it
because it asks for a user name and password and I have none as I
didn't set up one on win2000. Do I need that for networking? I will
try adding a user now.
