Oh-oh. I hate long boots. What speed processor do you have?
Not sure how much processor speed affects boot time. Usually I read
that it's the number of processes that are scheduled to start. Using
the free autoruns
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/autoruns.mspx
you can control some of them. But the Thinkpads layer on so many
utilities, it takes forever. I've been disabling them but to little
effect. As I read the forums, slow boots have been a constant
problem. Some people reformat and reinstall the opsys, this assuming
you can build an opsys CD from the recovery disks or from the hard
disk. (Here's what's involved
http://www.supportpcs.co.uk/installcd/index.html ).
Back on topic, I have XY (TAME 5.1 Pre7) running on a T41. (Until
TAME 5.1 XY was, IMHO, not fit to use on a T-Pad. I had the machine
for a year and a half before I could get U2 CLIP and SAVESESS to
work. RH guessed either BIOS or something else machine related. At
all events, TAME 5.1. solved most of the problems. Take a look at
http://forum.thinkpads.com/ for other issues. NB runs fine.
