Sounds worth trying. To do so, do I have to uninstall VirtualBox, or just make sure that it's not running at the same time as VPC? I know you've said before that different VMs don't peacefully coexist, and I don't want to start WWIII on my desktop.
No, you can have them both working at the same time. Leave your VirtualBox as is (with hardware virtualization on). See VB Manager, select virtual machine, Settings, System, Acceleration, Enable VT-x/AMD-V (checked). N.B. This is a machine-specific setting in VBox. (For background, see https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch10.html#hwvirt). Then in Virtual PC Console, File, Options, Hardware Virtualization, Uncheck 'Enable hardware-assisted virtualization', do this with no machines running! N.B. This a global setting in VPC 2007. (Do keep in mind that you cannot have Virtual PC 2007 and Virtual PC - XP mode in the same machine! Virtual PC 2007 will not install.) I have never experienced a crashed with this configuration, and I run both VBox and VPC at the same time.
