I'll trust tapes if I make redundant backups. I don't remember ever getting
an error message when I wanted to access an old tape. (I did have a tape
get unspooled a couple of times, but I opened them up and rethreaded them.)
It occurs to me that Egghead was selling an HP Pavillion, with 8GB hard
drive, for $260. It would be cheaper to buy a new computer and use it for a
backup than to buy a new tape drive.
