I have run XY on several windows machines,
with no trouble, and have always opened from an ikon on my desktop.
I forget how I did it but --
re-creating.
First, I always run from directory \xy --
below windows.
When I right click on that directory in 'my
computer' I get the option 'create shortcut.' I would guess that's the way I do
it, because I don't know enough to do anything more complcated.
Also, if it's of any interest to anyone, all
my xywrite files are in directory \A --
again below windows. I don't know whether that's normal or not, but it seemed to
make sense to me.

Subject: Re: robert's advice on setting
up shortcuts and icons to start xywrite
Dear Paul and Robert
First, thank you Paul for sending me the reference in the archive that I
could not find to Robert's advice on setting up shortcuts. In case
someone tries to find Robert's instructions in the
Xywrite archieve do not make the same misstake I did. I guess
I showed my age by looking for "batch" rather than a "bat" when I
did a search in the archive.
Second, thank you Robert for preparing a set of instructions for
setting up a shortcut that are clear and have stood the test of time on
several pc's.
