No, 5ab,ab/nv,st,st/nv uses SG 01 (copy subtended just to be sure,
because it also uses SG 50, though not 51).
Path: here's the result of piping the path command to a text file:
PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\PROGRA~1\WIN98RK;C:\GS\GS8.15\BIN
≪ look in Editor's directory for any file VIEWPDF*, especially

NO viewpdf.*, but I do find the following, created this time and date:
lfn.tmp, 2K, consisting of a listing of the root directory of drive D:,
which is where my XyWrite directory is.
$ver$.tmp, 1 K,, consisting of the following three lines:
Windows 98 [Version 4.10.2222]
≪There's a line in the frame that says:
BX dos/nv/x/z /c -output \VIEWPDF.TMP ""Q2
≫
Right, did all that, and the resulting "actual command being issued to
DOS and GS " reads like this:
dos/nv/x/z /c -output D:\XYW4DOS\VIEWPDF.TMP "c:\GS\gs8.15"
I very much doubt that's too long (I've typed longer commands at a DOS
prompt and used longer ones in batch files), but it yields
Bad command or file name
(I'm assuming the "dos/nv/x/z" is Xywrite, so just used the part
beginning "/c")
I also tried running it from the Run command on the start menu, and got a
message that Redmond Rubbish couldn't find the file output or one of its
components.
So possibly "output" is something (like net use to a port on the current
PC) that just doesn't work in 9x? No, I don't LIKE 9x, but I'm unwilling
to "upgrade" to more RR when what I really want to do is switch to Linux.
HOWEVER, substituting kmd got the same results: "-output is not a
recognized command."
A further wrinkle: Besides delivering the DOS command, the new version
(with EX) leaves open a window in Xywrite displaying the file LFN.tmp
(Which NOW is a directory of C:\gs\gs8.15\bin), with the file listing for
PSTOTXT3.exe selected.
Hmm, just had a thought. Back when we were discussing GETPATH and its
variations, you mentioned something about periods in paths. (Will look it
up later, but I MUST go update the subscription list). Might the fact
that the path in SG 50 includes a directory with a period in it (gs8.15)
be throwing things out of whack? As I said, there is no hurry about this,
but it is a knotty problem I'd like to solve if and when you have time to
advise.
Thanks, Patricia
