OK, Kari, I think I have to accept regretfully that Virtual Box is
not the way to go at this time in Win 8 for Dos 6.22 and Win 3.11.
What other avenues, tried or untried, would you recommend for Windows
8? Do you also think it would be pointless to try FreeDOS with
networking and Xywrite? (I coudn't get the networking to work, but
I'm sure that's just because of unfamiliarity, rustiness and yes,
let's admit it, stupidity.) Many thanks, Bill

I managed to do some testing in Virtual Box. I have MS-DOS 6.22 +
Win 3.11 running ok. When run in full-screen mode, mouse cursor
movement is acceptable, otherwise there are serious problems caused
by an unmanageable and erratic mouse cursor. There are major
difficulties in finding a good 1024x768 display driver (the S3
trio64V 1.70.04 1024x768 256 C SF, which works in Virtual PC, does
not work here). It seems that some people are using patches to
overcome this limitation. MS SVGA driver works ok, but is hardly
enough. It is not easy to exchange information between the host and
guest systems as there are no DOS additions available. The overall
experience is not up to what I have in Virtual PC. Moreover, Virtual
Box caused a lockup of files on my desktop, which needed a reboot to
fix. This stuff may be too overpowering for my liking.

Kari Eveli
