Y'all,
Is there a difference between 'I am Scotch' and 'I am a scotch'?
'Ich bin Lehrer' means 'I am a teacher'; one does not say 'Ich bin ein
Lehrer.' This applies to all occupations generally, not just teachers.
Literary exceptions are known: 'ich bin ein Clown' [Heinrich Boell], and
by analogy 'ich bin ein Idiot'.
Stuttgarters speak a dialect known as Schwabish.
