Re: still running in Windows 10

Jordan, I would love to see the links and hope the.issues are cosmetic. Kari. I have used win 7 and win 8.1 extensively for the past year and must report that solely from the points of view of speed and stability, win 8.1 is a marked improvement. I would never choose 7 now. Win 8.1 has brought me the fewest crashes I have ever experienced with windows, starting from the beginning. As regards the difference interface I have found it possible Ito get used to it. 8 1 is the snow leopard of windows, i.e., it just works. Since under the hood changes in code has been so successful in 8.1, I would hate to miss out, if that were true in 10, and I intend to experiment.

Hi all,

I bought a used computer for my kids with 8.1 a couple of months ago, it was snappy, but the user interface was something of a mess. I downgraded the machine to 7 Pro, all went pretty well, except that the updating process after the basic installation took a very long time. The resulting system was quite a bit slower than with 8.1 (the difference is noticeable at startup). Windows 7 is beginning to show its age and is becoming like XP in this respect. The underlying engine of 8.1 and 10 is better, but the interface is a compromise that is not suited for serious desktop use. Microsoft has not addressed the issues raised. There is not a proper start menu and the user settings are scattered in many places. My conclusion and advice: forget about Windows 10, wait for something better, and use Win 7 Pro as long as you can. Add an SSD to the system to speed it up.

Jon, thanks for the good news about Editor/vDosXy under Win10, and
for the heads-up about privacy settings. Having moved to Win7 only
last year, I don't plan to switch anytime soon, though I'll probably
take a hard look at 10 shortly before the free upgrade expires.
