4.011 vs 4.017

Dear Charles,

Is it really only $10? I already have the "right" speller, but if
I could get an upgrade.... And TTG will respond? I'm interested to see
that there is a more recent version of XY4 than mine, 4.011, because I've
had problems with 4.011 that ultimately brought me back to III+ for nearly
all of my work.
I wrote TTG about my problems back in 1993 and 1994 but never heard
anything back, even after a follow-up letter. I assumed the whole
business had crashed.
Would anyone tell me if the following problems were solved between
4.011 and 4.017?

1. Parentheses (opening and closing) are missing from the printer fonts
(but not the screen fonts) in the "Dutch" typeface, point-sizes 8, 14, 16,
18, 24, 36 and 48 only. That drove me crazy.

2. When viewing in graphic mode, a box will shift location erratically on
screen once passages of text above or below it are deleted. The new
locations are always false. The document is stable, but the display is
not. I gave up on boxes after that.

3. The XY4-3 keyboard file will not let me use ALT plus an arrow key for
moving to the next or previous word. The ALT table in the keyboard file
has 101=pw, 102=nw, so I'm completely mystified why I get spades and
diamonds instead of cursor movement. I have XY4-3 loaded by my
STARTUP.INT.

4. Back-up files are sometimes created even though I set BK=0 in
SETTINGS.DFL.

5. The program doesn't seem to invoke any RAM beyond 640K and therefore
creates temporary files for EVERYTHING, including a simple directory!
(Is this why I get all those back-up files, too?)

6. One more, but it's about the appearance of the thesaurus in
graphic view, and I'm too bored to write about it.

Thanks to all and sundry,
Carlo Caballero
