New vDosxy and underlining

I've been using vDosXY to run Nota Bene 3.0 with generally happy
results. In config.txt, I had WP=6 to allow underlining and italics.
That setting crashes the new vDosXY, at least in my (NB3) experience.
Any possibility of getting underlining back?
More generally, I'm curious about what problems the new version was
meant to solve, or what new functionality it is supposed to offer.
