For those who expressed interest in my effort to combine Xy/Dos
with a mobile voice recognition package, here's the sad update.
I returned the Dragon Naturally Mobile package to Micro
Center.
Integrating with Xy was no problem using cut and paste. The
problem: what I cut and pasted was largely gibberish.
Despite a lot of time "training" the software, the error
rate was unbelievable--over 50 percent, it seemed. No matter
how slowly and distinctly I spoke. The portable recorder
seemed to degrade performance even more in places with
only moderate noise--my car, for example, where I do much
of my dictation.
One culprit is probably my sound card. But I'm not about to
upgrade it to continue this experiment.
My conclusion: this is still not a mature technology. I could
see
using VR for short notes, memos, but not for big chunks of
text.
