BAD ADVICE

Maybe you folks need to talk to some different lawyers about this patent
deal. I don't use auto replace and correct all that much, but when I need it
I'm glad it's there. I've already started using Word For Windows rather
heavily and doubt if I will upgrade since this decision seems to be the easy
way out with little regard for your end users.
I'm darned sure "search and replace" isn't an idea that can be patented.
That's all the auto replace and correct feature really is. I just don't buy
the argument that it's a patent infringement. I'm surprised that you're
getting legal advice to that effect. On the other hand, you might be
receiving advice that it's easier to delete the feature than bother with a
court fight, even though you stand a good chance of winning. I'm left with
the impression that there's more to this than is being reported. Just an
opinion, mind you. Would the recent announcement about Xyquest entering into
some type of arrangement to upgrade Displaywrite for WINDOWS and PM for IBM
have anything to do with this? Like maybe some priorities have suddenly
shifted?
As to "writing" to the V.P. of Marketing, I would hope he cares enough
about his product that he pays some attention to the messages placed on his
own company's BBS.
