Thanks, Francisco. I do almost zero programming in XyWrite. Even setting up a tiny little program to invoke a saveget set by hitting andkey combination is about as much as I have ever done. However, I can follow "cook book" instructions very well. So, if you have the time, can you spell out for me a little more clearly what I need to do? What is "save gate 10"? Is that anything like a "saveget"? If so, I thought savegets could only be invoked with a single key, and not multiple keys like "10". BTW, I also tried Marge's suggestion to store the text to another file, turn on the small caps toggle switch, and then run that file. That didn't work, either. The text was merely put back into place without changing the letters to small caps. For what it is worth, the way I get small caps now is through a specially assigned keyboard set as part of a larger keyboard file that was developed in-house. That keyboard file, has within it, a definition to invoke the small caps keyboard set when the keypad "minus" key is hit. The keyboard file (cch.kbd) defines that minus key as a toggle switch for the small caps keyboard set. All the best, //Avi ________________________________ From: owner-xywrite@xxxxxxxx on behalf of Francisco Barrau Sent: Thu 11/10/2005 2:56 AM To: xywrite@xxxxxxxx Subject: Re: converting upper and lower-case letters to small caps Only for curiosity: may this small XPL program do that? You only have to put in save gate 10, the correspondent small caps of any letter: and run it in a open file with the block defined you want to change. You had better to test with a small bock in a test file, and all the other files closed, etc. to avoid accidents. I think it must be completed with other subs (to avoid to work without an open file, avoid beep, etc) but perhaps is a small begining. If you can send your completed version, I would like to test it. This doesn't work. Entering "cc" in the command line merely changes highlighted text from upper case to lower case and lower case to upper case. //Avi Fredric Gross wrote on Tuesday, November 08, 2005 4:02 PM: Avram -- At least for this old 3+ user (who did not have the benefit of that programmer's genius), small caps depend upon the font. If you have specified a large-and-small caps font, the change case command, CC, will do what you want. Not seeing a reference to small caps in the XyWrite manual, I suspect that my ability to use small caps at all is a feature added to our company's copy of XyWrite by a programmer no longer with the company. Essentially, the minus keypad key (-) is used to turn on and turn off the small cap feature. The assignment of the small caps to the keys appears in a *.kbd file. I often need to change text from upper and lower case to all small caps and currently do so by keying in the entry. Is there a way that I could do this via a command from the command line with highlighted text without having to spend more than a couple of hours creating special program files or extensively altering existing system files?
