Variable ^MD

Can one access or use this variable anyplace but in the directory
listing? I'd like to include it in the headers of dBase .prg files, so
I'd know which is the most recent version, but attempts to embed
≪VA^MD≫ in a header (or anyplace else for that matter) yield a blank.
I thought perhaps one must first save it to another SG, so tried this:

but all that happened was that a new, untitled file was created. Any ideas?
