in other words, they do not see the dictionary as a compendium of
concepts as well as a lexicon.
So why not make them use the HTOED - - which is a fixed list of
meanings. It's not user friendly in book form (though soon to be
integrated with the online OED, which will make it much easier). But
in book form, it might help stretch students' minds.
