Re patio doors:
Clean off the tracks and then rub with paraffin or candle wax. Won't get
gummy or gather attract soot. You could try rubbing with wax paper, but that
might not transfer enough wax.
Re keys:
WD-40 is fine. You could also try rubbing the key with candle wax or dipping
it into melted wax. Any excess will merely flake off.
If you're desperate or feel like experimenting, scrape an ordinary pencil
with a sharp knife to get the "lead" (actually graphite powder) onto a sheet
of stiff paper. Make a "V" with the paper, place at the keyhole, and blow
gently to get the graphite powder into the keyhole. Work the key in and out a
couple times, wiping the excess graphite off.
Re K-Y:
Forget it. It's water-based and will eventually corrode metal.
