Win95, Orbis

The point is to find tools to be productive and if Win95 lets you
be more productive, that's great. As people begin to use XyWrite under
Win95, I hope there will be lots of discussion of how to get the
most out of XyWrite in that environment and that none of this
will be accompanied by remarks that you would be happier with a
different OS or driving a Ford or attending the Methodist Church.
Now on to Orbis. I'm afraid I've reached the point of giving up on
Orbis. I take it there were no fixes between the Orbis I used with
XyDos 4.12 and XyDos 4.17. Orbis remains very unstable to the
point that I would rate it as a badly behaving beta product.
Since it crashes so frequently, I now run it in isolation in a
separate DOS session. And it will still crash multiple times a
day.
The idea of Orbis is great. Unfortunately, in practice the
program is too unstable to use, at least for me. So I am
beginning to wonder about alternatives. Are there other programs
available either in DOS or OS/2 that let you create and search
textbases similarly to Orbis?
