If you want light grey text on a black background in your Windows programs, you simply define a color scheme as such in the Windows Control Panel. Rather than specifying a color scheme for each Windows program, you define one for the system, which all programs use. I've got such a setup on my machine, and it's remarkable how much like XyWrite I can make all my Windows programs appear (including email, WordPad, Nota Bene, and even MS Word). You can even have one scheme for dark days and one scheme for bright days.
Different is not necessarily bad. To quote The Perl Mantra: "There's more than one way to do
it."
