Ignorant XY-Win questions

Umm... I am a bit embarrassed showing my ignorance in public
here, but there *are* a few things in XY-Win that constantly
annoy me, and I'd like to know if they are features or functions.

Myself, I am a long-time XY-3 user (user, not programmer; most
of the XPL programs I've seen float by here are *way* above my
head...), and I've been using XY-Win for some time for faxing
only. (I write my job in XY-3, open it in XY-Win, and fax it off
by TYping it -- works great.)
However, recently I've begun to occasionally actually *write*
small jobs in XY-Win, and that's when the strange things began
to happen.

For example:
--> I want to unselect a defined block by clicking outside it
(a la Windoze), and get a series of "PROTECTION VIOLATION"
boxes. Sometimes a series of 20 clicks or so gets me out
of it, sometimes it all ends in a crash.
--> I try to use a cute font, and instead of the font, I get
a message "FONT FILE NOT FOUND", and the job is garbled.
After the occurrence, no fonts any more, until I leave and
  re-start XY-Win.
--> CTRL-INS should, according the instruction manual, save a
file to clipboard, but instead it deletes it. (I *have* modified
the keyboard a little bit, but haven't touched the table=Ctrl
section). Clipboarding from the menu works, but I'd prefer
to be able to stay on the keyboard.
--> When I am in graphic view and try to define a block near the
end of the document, something strange happens as the end
gets closer: suddenly the page jumps up, and I don't see the
document anymore, leaving me clueless as to where the block
  is.
--> There doesn't seem to be cursor on the ruler line any more.
Try as I want, I can't get it. Help! Even typewriters and
Microsloth wordprocessors have it. How can I get it back?
--> I can't figure out how to turn on auto replace by default.
"func ar" a la XY-3 doesn't seem to work. Only way to get it
is to click on the picture.

Features, functions, or wetware problems? I'd be grateful for
any help (in private OK, if all the above is considered below the level
for the list).

TIA
