Dear List
I switched recently to an iBook, love it and am thinking of buying
Apple's beautiful new 20-inch PC next month. My only hesitation is
that no one I've talked to, including Apple's genius bar people, has
had a clue as to how to install and run Xy 3+ (Version 3.55) on an
Apple.
I emailed a prominent member of this list directly, saying that it
would be worth a LOT to me -- really a lot, like $500 -- to have
beloved Xy running on my laptop and the new PC, and asking if he or
someone he knows might come to my house -- I live in Manhattan -- and
install it.
He kindly wrote back:
"I don't have a clue about Macs ... in recent days we have been
talking about just these issues -- there are numbers of people who
use Macs and have XyWrite running on it ... who know exactly how to
do it, and rely on it every day. And they would be delighted to help
you, I'm sure. The only difficulty is that no one of them is going
to come to your house and do it for you -- you're going to have to
follow their guidance and do it yourself ... how you get DOS on your
Apple is really the main issue. ... May I suggest that you ask the
same question you asked me publicly on the maillist, without the
request to visit you, and
see who steps forward. "
I am following this advice but WITH the request for a house call. I
apologize, but honestly I don't want to learn how to do it, I just
want it done.
It would probably be best to write me directly and not bother the
list. Is there anyone ...????
Irene
