Dear Mr Duval
I am uncertain if my message dated October 19 addressed to
74603.761@xxxxxxxx ever got to you so I am resending it to the e-mail
address you provided in your message of October 19.
Could you please confirm your e-Mail address as XYWRITE@xxxxxxxx
as I got a rude message on
October 19 suggesting that I don't clog other people's mailboxes and e-Mail TTG
directly.
Here is the original message:
Many thanks for the swift response to my e-Mail of October 18. Here is the
text of the XyWrite 4 document that was attached to yesterday's message:
ONE:
If I install ORBIS with Version 4015, XyWrite 4 hangs up at the copyright
screen. The EDITOR.EXE file is increased from 679904 to 758086 by the ORBIS
installation.
Sometimes QEMM throws out an error message which says that it is not
responsible, but the problem could lie with
EDITOR/ORBIS. I followed the QEMM troubleshooting suggestions and by a process
of elimination eventually stripped out everything from my CONFIG.SYS and
AUTOEXEC.BAT except for FILES=28. The result was always the same:
EDITOR/ORBIS hung up.
If I run EDITOR/ORBIS under WINDOWS 3.1, I get the following message after it
hangs up: "This application has violated system integrity due to execution of
an invalid instruction and will be terminated".
ORBIS works perfectly with Version 4014 which was supplied as an update with
the ORBIS installation disks I got in
1993.
TWO:
I have just tested Version 4015's hyphenation using the DICT.HYP exception
dictionary. Again I have found that words are not always hyphenated according
to DICT.HYP's list of exceptions (I get exactly the same results with
XyWrite for Windows). For the test, I stripped out all the hyphens in the
exception dictionary and used the SHOHYP command which resulted in a different
set of hyphenations compared to the exceptions dictionary and XyWrite 3+. For
example:
Exception XyWindows/
Dictionary XyWrite 4 XyWrite 3+
gen-tle-man gent-leman gen-tle-man
gen-tle gentle gen-tle
gen-tri-fi-ca-*tion gentrifica-tion gen-tri-fi-ca-tion
In the hyphenation defaults my settings are: USA soft hyphen character,
smallest word 6, minimum before 2 and minimum after 2.
I hope the above information is sufficient to help you to pinpoint the
problems. Could you please let me know if this message got through to you as
by now I am fairly paranoid about ever receiving a response from The Technology
Group.
Yours sincerely
Jon Inggs
