Though I've used XYWrite since II+, I ran into something today that I
hadn't seen before. I created a new file named "$.bat", the $ in the name
having to do with the aplication. XYWrite liked the name, and stored the file
as I requested.
The surprise came when I wanted to edit the file. I gave the command
"editor $.bat" but the editor came up with an error message, syaing it found no
file named bat. I typed ca $.bat and made my edits. I thought I had mis-typed
the file name.
However, the second time I went to edit, and got the same message, it
occured to me perhaps this was not my fumble fingers.
I tried again and found that a file beginning with "$" would not be
called properly on editor startup but it could be called once the editor was
up.
It's not important; just curious. I took a quick look in the manual
but found no information.
Is this a bug or a "feature"? Are there any other legal characters
that can't be called from the dos command line?
Again, just curious.
Thanks.
