≪user accounts. It's probably dangerous, but unless I'm working at a
Wi-Fi hotspot (very rare), I always run as admin. I simply cannot
_stand_ Big Brother Bill telling me I don't have permission to do this,
that, and the other thing.≫
It's not about Big Bad Bill telling you you can't do something. If you
have kids in the house who use a computer, for example, it's about you
determining what your kids can do or install on the computer (e.g., what
partitions they can look at). Not a bad idea, really. Even if the kids
have their own computer(s), they shouldn't be mucking around with the OS
until they know what they're doing. And, as we all know from miserable
experience, it is so easy to click somewhere inadvertantly and change
something, and, because you weren't paying attention to what happened,
you might not be able to retrace your steps to get back to where you
were before.
Also bear in mind that if you run in admin mode, a virus/trojan/worm can
install itself, since it has whatever user privileges the logged-on user
has. Logging on in another mode which restricts install options is a
good barrier against such malware. If you have adequate protection from
such malware anyway, then it is quite all right to run in admin mode.
