Robert,
I had, of course, already followed your marvelously clear step-by-step
debugging instructions. (That's how I knew I had the older vmsvbvm60.dll.)
After another hour of testing, I've located the source of the problem--and
it's not in 117 or EXE. The problem is that CLIPW has some DOS/nv/x/z calls
in it. I can't shell to DOS at all in VPC-Win98 on the Mac. This is a huge
problem for me, and I don't even know how to test it further.
Robert, I'm kinda hoping you will have some ideas of how to isolate the
shelling out problem.

The weird thing is that shelling to DOS works in VPC-WinXP.

Note: even weirder--the DO command works.
This latter suggested to me that something was wrong with command.com. But
that didn't test out as the problem.
With DOS, I get "cannot run command." And I see the message "Type EXIT to
return to XyWrite" flash by on the Command Line (a message that should
appear at the DOS prompt). I've tried a wide variety of forms of the DOS
command, in different directories, with different switches, with 4DOS.COM
instead of COMMAND.COM. Nothing works. But the damn DO does!
