Carl, thanks for the clarification. Yes, when certain fonts (such as
double-high, or larger point size) are used in a XyWrite document (III+ or 4),
AL must be set to "1". As a default configuration, our printer files have a
vertical spacing table designed to produce 6 lines per inch. If a larger point
size is implemented, this table will cause text on subsequent lines to overlap
the lines above (due to LS command). AL values setup in the printer file
inform the program of the proper spacing for these fonts. We do not consider
this a bug, however we could provide better documentation for the user.
XyWrite 4 does allow you to print scalable fonts on this printer... the
scalable fonts which we provide with XyWrite 4 (Bitstream.. Dutch, Swiss &
Courier10). These fonts (or typefaces) however must be printed in what is
termed "Image Mode". This mode uses the graphics code of the printer to *draw*
the characters... it is extremely SLOW!
