Re: virus (Morris Krok still sending it...)

Calm thyselves, good people. It's easily remedied. Technically, all such
critters are "worms," but there's really no point in quibbling over
semantics. Point your browser to this site for all you need to know about
eradicating the bug and its siblings:

Morris may have the worst of it already, so the fix might be somewhat
involved for him (editing the Win95/98 registry and such). For those who
don't use Outlook Express, variants of the bug require no more than deleting
(ASAP) the mail attachment that carries a ".vbs" extension. Ditto if you use
Outlook Express with Microsoft's "active scripting" disabled, unless you
double click on the thing to execute it. Certainly more troublesome if you do
that, or if Outlook Express executes it for you automatically.

Some of these recent worms go after photo files selectively, and others seek
and destroy almost everything on the local drives, including network drives
if applicable. BUT NOT IF YOU DON"T GIVE THEM A HELPING HAND. Caution, but
not panic, is definitely advised.

It's a bit like washing your hands before you eat, to avoid food
contamination. These are all just opportunities to learn good healthy
internet table manners. Even so, the ILOVEYOU bug cost my company about 1,000
man-hours in down time alone on that fateful Thursday (partly due to tech
services' panic). I wouldn't want anyone else to go through that.
