To find out which JVM it is, command at DOS:
java -version
or
java -fullversion

Just download the ZIPfile (test it [unzip -t pbm125a.zip] but don't UnZIP it!)
at http://www.polarbar.org/download.html
REName it POLARBAR.ZIP
then go to http://www.polarbar.org/install.html for installation instructions.
If you have a more modern version of Java, don't forget to create a java.policy
file, as described on the installation page -- won't work without it! If your
version of Java is less than v1.1.8, then trash it and get a newer one (see
http://www.polarbar.org/javapage.html). And you'll probably want to use
Javaw.exe instead of Java.exe (or JREW instead of JRE), so that a Java debug
window isn't open all the time. Lastly, join the maillist -- any problems,
just ask (goto http://mail.sumatra.nl:8080/guest/RemoteListSummary/polarbar to
submit your email address and join). The built-in Help file is comprehensive,
once you get the program up and running -- makes for interesting reading --
sort of like XyWrite manuals: you pick them up and learn something new every
time. There used to be a search facility for mail -- I don't know if it still
functions or not, but I can ZIP up my archive of five or six years of msgs, if
you're interested. Then PBM itself can find the answers to your questions.
Feel free to ask me privately for help. Good luck. Boy, are you gonna regret
this! All your misgivings about Java punctured.
