Re: vDos-lfn is now officially vDosPlus!

From what I recall being said here previously, it should be possible to hav
e both branches set up and working -- as alternatives, and for comparison --
hopefully without the two getting entangled ? Then you would just
have to keep them straight in your mind, perhaps with the aid of a concise
'Notes' file in each top-level directory.

I am already in the process of doing something similar with portable Firefox.
Due to some major changes in the underlying APIs, a substantial portion
of the extensions (add-ons) that we have come to depend upon have either
already become incompatible or will soon do so. I just cannot run
a browser without this stuff, so I am continuing to run version 4701 (the
last pre-change version) as my mainstay, plus a couple of the succeeding ESR
versions (Extended, or delayed changes release), to track how these browser
extensions fall out. Because these are all portable apps, they are
able to coexist independently on a system. However and as expected,
only one can be run at a time, and its processes must be fully terminated
before launching another one. This also involves keeping track of individual
supporting files, such as bookmarks. Some like that may need to be
updated, from one program tree to another. I'm hoping something
like this can be done with vDos.

Jon,

The 2015 branch is 100% compatible with Xy4+U2 -- full stop, end of
story. As for 2016, I put compatibility somewhere north of 90%. A
handful of U2 routines that call Windows executables (BigEdit, for
example) don't work as expected; if you don't use them, you probably
wouldn't notice anything. As for the differences, 2016 has a slight
speed advantage and built-in printing facilities. (But PostScript and
PCL printing in 2015 is excellent. The latest vDosPlus build nails it.)
