Ed, Kari, and everyone:
Something related that I have looked for at least as much is the ability to move all installed programs, shortcuts, desktop, preferences etc. from an existing Windows to a new, fresh Windows already in place elsewhere. All in one clean shot. An alternative to moving the existing copy of Windows, a form of backup I was discussing with Edward. (In essence, this can also be thought of as a brain transplant. The OS version of the tablecloth trick where all the place settings remain undisturbed where they were.) I don't think Windows' own migration tool allowed going this far and acting this completely. A couple programs on the market -- Laplink PC Mover being one -- have claimed to be able to do this. The results for that have been a matter of some dispute. What about with any competing products ?

Subject: Re: Backup software
Kari and all, I can tell you from extensive experience that ShadowProtect is the only software that consistently makes accurate backups and flawlessly restores them. Nothing else works on Windows year in, year out. The other software I grade from inept to disastrous. For Mac I use CCC.
