Irv Thomae writes that
in xyWrite 3 the "easiest way" to turn carriage returns
into newlines (the familiar graf-ending left-pointing
arrows mistakenly called carriage returns by xyWrite
documentation) is manually, by using the carriage
return from the ascii type 2 Help frame, then adds:
≪ Every time I do it, I think "there *must* be
a more streamlined way to insert CR-only (or LF-only,
for that matter) on the III+ command line?" ≫
Hi, Irv. Indeed there is, and it's not the perfectly
good xyW4 solution someone posted that guarantees grief
if you try to run it in xyW3. Surf to the url in my sig,
click on the prominent xyWrite/PostScript link, then
on the "freestanding xyW3 utilities that don't need
!xyWise." The first listed, #FIXCR, converts carriage
returns--and the linefeeds that unix uses to end
grafs--to newlines without headaches.
While you're at the site, don't miss fellow subscriber
Wolfgang Bechstein's saltwater adventures aboard his
inflatable dinghy Gonbei, which he just fitted out
for sailing--see "Rigmarole." ... Ciao. --a
