Timothy Olson recommends a default setting of NW=0 so as to control
window openings and closing absolutely.
I recommend a setting of NW=2, which automatically opens the next
available window when opening a new file but
does not close it when abandoning or storing the file. It has the
advantage over the out-of-the-box defaule of NW=3
of not replacing a directory by a file called from that directory.
While these distinctions are explained in the manuals,
the comments in the settings file are not so clear.
