XyWrite under OS/2

Since I've just learned of this list, I think I'll ask a few more
questions about the way XyWrite behaves under OS/2. Again, I'm using
Version 4.017, under OS/2 Warp Version 3. I usually run XyWrite from a
DOS window session under OS/2.

One of the strange things that happens is that, when I mark text by
holding down the shift key and moving the cursor keys, it often happens
that somewhere along the way, the text-marking stops, as if I had let go
of the Shift key, even though I have not. I have to go back to where the
marking stopped and hold down the shift key again, and then I can usually
finish what I was marking. I never had this happen when I used XyWrite 4
under DOS or Windows 3.1, before I installed OS/2. For that matter, I
never have this happen on my home computer, which runs XyWrite under DOS
6.22.

The other problem that I have is when I try to use a XyWrite WYSIWIG
session. When I first installed OS/2, I had 16-color graphics because I
didn't know that I needed the proper driver for my graphics card. But
with 16-color graphics, the WYSIWIG session worked in a windowed session,
though it was black letters on a blue background (or was it blue letters
on a black background?). Then I could press Alt-Home to change to a
full-screen session, and the graphics would work fine.

Since I installed the proper driver to use SVGA color graphics, the
WYSIWIG session doesn't work in a windowed session. It says "XyWrite --
Suspended" at the top of the window, and an OS/2 box comes on saying that
the system doesn't support this mode in a window session. So I hit
Alt-Home to switch to a full-screen session. And the WYSIWIG screen works
fine. Except that the command line freezes. Every time I hit F5, it puts
the command "ca" without a file name on the command line, without my
having typed it. And an error message comes on the message line saying
that I have to specify a file. The same thing happens if I try to hit F6
to change to another XyWrite window.

I've found only one way to get XyWrite back working again. I hit Alt-Esc,
which minimizes XyWrite and returns to the OS/2 desktop. When I click on
the minimized icon, XyWrite returns, working normally.

Enough questions for now. I'll have more later.
