Xy3 printer question

An acquaintance has just installed a Sharp AL-1000 and is having
trouble getting Xy3+ to print. Anyone familiar with this model? Is
it a Win printer, incompatible with DOS, or is it just a matter of
finding the right Xy3 printer file?
