I'm aware of this, since about 3 days ago. The XySearch server
is used for a lot of different purposes, mostly unrelated to
XyWrite. An automatic English-to-Indonesian machine translation
server in Melbourne, Australia, with which my server is
constantly in contact, failed for a few days sometime last week,
and consequently the Apache error logs on the XySearch server
ballooned to a huge size, completely filling the partition that
contains the XySearch messages (free space=zero). This, in
turn, caused the Namazu database of XySearch messages to crash
and erase its own index.
Now, had I been present in NYC, my server would probably have
made a lot of noise and complained, and I would have immediately
noticed. But I haven't been in NYC for 4 months. I maintain
that machine remotely, but I don't actually inspect it more than
once a week.
The PROBLEM is, that to recreate the entire XySearch index will
take some preparation, and then writing the index will take
about 24 hours, maybe a good deal more -- it's an old, slow
laptop, adequate as a server, but lousy for real computing.
That means shutting down the server, which is in constant use
for other server tasks. I really can't do that until later this
month, when some of my services go on "vacation".
Therefore, XySearch is down until further notice.
