Increases the type size? ... Is this what you mean by "track the
type positively", or is it something fancy?
Sorry I wasn't more clear, Carl. What "expanded type" means in MS Word is
that, for example, and by default, 1 "point" (whatever that means in
Microspeak) of spacing is inserted between each character. In other words,
the intercharacter spacing is increased. This is also what typesetters mean
by "positive tracking". Negative tracking would decrease the space between
letters.
It is a generally accepted principle of typesetting that, when using a
scalable type that is usually optimized for use at 12 pt, that positive
tracking will be required as the size gets smaller, and negative tracking
will be required as the type size gets larger. PageMaker deals with this
very nicely.
