In my former job I used perl a lot with huge text files (10 meg and above)
that Xy4DOS couldn't handle. I still preferred XPL, but did manage to do
useful text extraction and some statistical analysis. The days are long gone,
alas, and I remember virtually nothing of perl. But anyone who thinks XPL is
arcane and hard to learn....

Perl is great for text manipulation, once you get your script debugged. It
can be quite fast.
