Dear Paul
I speak from direct personal experience. Do not upgrade beyond xp
unless you have the technical knowledge and expertise of Robert or Carl.
Even with Robert's gracious help I could not get the screen fonts in xy to
look right in Windows 7. I had run Xy for several years in XP and had no
problem with the screen fonts. My experience may not be directly
applicable to your situation. I bought a new pc from Dell because my
service contract on my old Dell had expired and I had found the Dell 24/7
telephone support really worthwhile. It was cheaper to get a new pc with a
4 year service contract than to renew a service contract on my old dell.
Unfortunately it came with Window 7. Once I realized that I did not have
the technical expertise and patience to get xy to run in windows 7,
Dell's pro support was extremely helpful in downgrading my pc from
windows 7 back to Xp. In fact at one point we had a problem
partitioning my hard drive because it had originally been partitioned in
windows 7. Through a lot of trial and error Dell finally was able to
partition my hard drive by booting from a vista cd. Once we got my hard
drive partitioned installing xp was a breeze.(pardon the pun) Dell even
provided the xp drivers my pc needed and assured me that as long as I have my pc
I did not have to worry about getting xp drivers.
