Xy4 Instability

I would be very interested -- and, I daresay, so would TTG
Development -- to hear specifics from those who experience Xy4
(DOS) as buggy or unstable.
I've used it daily since its post-Signature debut over two years
ago, and to me it's significantly more stable, less buggy -- not
to mention more powerful and more versatile -- than Xy III+.

III+ regularly froze up on me -- 2, 3, 4 times a week, much more
often when developing XPL programs. Xy4, on the other hand,
virtually never freezes up, rarely even during XPL development
(of which I do a good deal), with the possible exception of
routines-in-progress that manipulate control characters -- but
that's inherently explosive stuff. But while writing, editing or
formatting text? Never! Not even while working with big files,
whereas heavily formatted files larger than a couple hundred K
used to throw III+ for a loop, with recurrent "Can't scroll,
define, or display" messages that signaled impending doom.

One problem that seems to have worsened since v4.015 is the
"phantom" cursor -- i.e., sometimes the cursor is not where it
appears to be on the screen, so that pressing, e.g., the
key rubs out a character elsewhere. To all appearances this is a
screen refresh bug -- of which
XyIII+ has more than its share -- serious because it can lose
text, but nothing affecting the stability of the session itself.

If others are experiencing true instability -- keystrokes no
longer work as expected, data lost or in jeopardy, so that the
session has to be shut down and restarted -- let's hear about it
in detail, please.

P.S. How DID XyWrite get its name? K.F., do you know?
