It's definitely not inertia, for me, on this laptop (XP), because I tried
HARD to work in it .... I never tried to work in it on my still-working
ex-computer.
On this laptop, my worst problem -- and possibly the only one I couldn't
have gotten used to -- was that the cursor disappeared in overwrite mode ...
hitting Insert key just to locate the cursor was a PAIN .... I use several
colors in my work, and often have text selected .... and in some colors I
could find it, but in most I could not .... (I tried lots of colors -- I can
use any color for any particular thing -- I just need the differentiation on
the screen) ... I do frequent searches .... and I need to locate that
cursor with my eye, immediately, to maintain productivity ....
It is possible that I could deal with it better on a large monitor ....
(this is a laptop ... "15.4" Wide Ultrabright Display, sharp, vivid colors and
cinematic experience" to quote the sticker under my left wrist) ...
... time out ...
I just did some experimenting on my old desktop monitor (Windows 98) ....
though I don't have the time for that ..... but I AM interested .... I got
the window larger, but little icons still showed all around it, like clutter
on a desk ..... and I decided not to go into the XyWrite files and
experiment with type size etc ... or any other settings to try to make use
of it (I'd have to reread all pertinent sections of manual) ... not worth
the time to me right now .... But the FullScreen is much much nicer .... all
is visible, and easy on the eyes .....
Marge
PS -- if I could not achieve FullScreen on a future setup, I'd try to
optimize Windows settings ... would be a case of choosing lesser of two
evils .... (1) no XyWrite at all or (2) XyWrite not FullScreen ... and I'd
probably go for evil #2 ... and possibly after twenty years of working in
it, I'd wonder what the problem had been ...

Subject: Full-screen vs. Windowed
I wonder if the full-screen crowd is missing out. I work only in windowed
mode, and find it much preferable to full-screen. Is it just inertia that
makes some of you cling to full-screen? Or is it something system-dependent
that makes windowed mode work better for me than it would for you?
Use of Tame, in my case, came long after I had switched to windowed mode,
so this is not the issue (although Tame greatly enhances windowed mode for
Xy).
