Re: virus protection for the elderly

I've been using F-Prot for years and I am happy with it. The DOS version is
free, including frequent updates if you download them, and it runs fine in
DOS or in a DOS window within every version of Windows I've used (3.1, 3.11,
Win95 and Win98). The commercial version for later Windows versions will
cost you, but I think not as much as McAfee or Norton.

You can download the free version here:

Prof. Stannard writes:

≪ You folks have any advice on lifeboats friendlier to older and weaker
systems? I guess I could upgrade to Win98, though not eager to tamper with
a comfortable working situation or invite fresh but unfamiliar problems.
Also rather jealous of memory. Everyone today seems to presume anyone with
less than gigabytes and hi-end MHZ isn't worth thinking about. Backward
compatibility seems very low priority, rarely more than a few generations
counted in months instead of years.

Or should I resign myself to just being careful and hope for the best? ≫
