Re: Running xywrite and wordperfect 5.1 for dos in windows 7

Dear Avrom,

>Third, I thank everyone for trying to answer my question. Unfortunately I am not sure that I understand the answers so I will try to refocus my question

The thing is to decide if you really want to stick to XP, if so, buy a system that supports XP
(these are still very commonly sold to businesses and are certified for XP). This solution has pros
and cons: minimum hassle at present, but you may eventually have to upgrade to Win7. Newer is not
always better, so if you can live with the features your old system has, you might want to stick to
XP for the time being. If there are applications that XP cannot handle and you want to run, the
answer is simple: move on to Win7.

I am very comfortable with XP and VirtualPC for running DOS and Win 3.1 and Win 3.1 DOS boxes (I
like these the best for multitasking DOS applications). Consider even a dual-display setup: I have
Windows XP running on two monitors with a Matrox card, so that I can run VirtualPC on the second
monitor. This makes switching between XP and DOS much more comfortable, as the mouse pointer
integration of XP VirtualPC DOS sessions is a bit clumsy.

Best regards,
