Dear Carl
Spot on. I usually use the standalone cursor keys and PageUp, PageDn. However if I switch to the
numeric keypad I can navigate around my Thesaurus just as of old. Thanks.
Is this type of keyboard behaviour something that can be corrected?
By the way, while I was trying to explore this further I downloaded the lastest version (0.63) of
DOSBOX the DOS emulator and I was impressed with the progress it is making. I didn't spend long
testing it, but I could run XY4 in a full window and everything I tried (except for CLIP) worked.

In other words -- just to clarify -- you'd like it to act, operate,
function, have effect, and produce results, in an operative,
efficient, efficacious, practical, doable, and effectual sort of
way? I can relate to that!
You say that you "can bring up the Thesaurus window but neither the
cursor keys, nor PGUP, PGDN etc do anything." This sounds like a
keyboard control issue. Are you using the keys on the numeric
keypad? If so, try the standalone cursor keys, PageUp, PageDn, etc.
-- the ones to the left of the numeric pad. On my XP machine, the
thesaurus does not respond to Ctrl-PageDn and Enter on the numeric
keypad, but does respond to the standalone Ctrl-PageDn key and the
touch-typing Enter key. Also note that another way to look up the
thesaurus word under the cursor (or any word) is simply to type the
word. This is a way around a non-functional Ctrl-PageDn key -- less
efficient, but still efficacious.
Worth a try.
