Dear Kari
Cost is not really the issue it is convenience, noise, elegance and the
ability to fit into the slot available. I do not enjoy the tinkering
but it provides me with the solution I want.
Best wishes
Paul

Dear Paul,
I used to build my own systems in the past but not any more. The
offerings of used engineering workstations are simply too cost-effective
and powerful to pass by. And the motherboards and overall integration
are better than what you can get by doing it yourself and buying
expensive parts. But if you are fond of tinkering, then of course that
is another matter. (To do an exploratory comparison of specs and prices,
just enter "HP workstation" or similar on Ebay).
Best regards,

I am building, not buying a PC. I will be replacing the motherboard,
processor and memory with faster versions that support SATA3 and USB3. I
built a quiet PC many years ago and simply update components as
necessary. Commercial offerings have never offered what I want.
