Re: XyWin memory

- Maybe in reply to: Beeson, Douglas: "XyWin memory"

To do my comparison, I used a very small, text-only file (about 1K). I can't
be sure the other programs loaded it completely into memory, but that seemed
to me like a reasonable assumption.

Under Windows, only MSMail and File Manager were loaded. I then loaded each
WP app., one at a time so that only, say, Word, MSMail and File Manager were
running at one time. With my small test file loaded, I checked the MS Mail
Help About menu for the Windows system resources. In the case of XyWin, I
had 17252 KB left (virtual memory included, naturally). WP 5.2 w/ the macro
manager left me with 17453 KB; Word 6.0 left me with 17686 KB.

Today I did another test with no file. This time File Manager was not
loaded. I placed the MsMail icon and, successively, each one of the three
word processing app icons in the Start Up folder. I saved the configuration
then exited Windows and rebooted (to avoid Windows' weird memory reuse
problems.)
I then checked the Help About menu under MSMail to verify system resources.
I got:

Word Perfect 5.2, no macro manager: 17537 KB left. (Now, Macro Manager uses
about 100K, so let's say 17437 KB available.)

Word 6.0: 17824 KB left.

XyWin 4.12: 17423 KB left.

Am I doing anything wrong?
