Well, I've been very happy with my IBM Thinkpad 350 (now they
have a 360 and also sell something called a 340 to the
educational market): very very sturdy, great keyboard, and the
pointer device is marvelous for touch typers. I run Warp on it
quite well and I think it has a lesser processor than you are
looking at. I have looked at some Gateways and found them tinny
compared to the IBM line.
