If you are sending XyWrite files that do not include complex
formatting, you can make life easier for recipients by
converting them to HTML. I take it by now that many users
are already preparing HTML files for the web. That will give
you bold, your choice of italic or underline, etc. It is
also the most standard way of coding diacritics; for
instance, u with an umlaut is ü.

That raises another question. A great many of us have
written XPL programs that do XY-HTML conversions, but I for
one have done, not a comprehensive one, but one that meets
my own limited needs. Does anyone have a comprehensive one
(working both ways) to post on the XYWWWeb site? Or is there
one there that I haven't noticed?

A program of this kind doesn't need lists of diacritics at
the top of the file. It proceeds by a series of
search-and-replaces, and the program doesn't care, and isn't
noticeably slowed down, if some of them don't find anything.
