I have been reading the emails regarding printer problems. While I do not print in Xywrite, I thought the correspondence that I had with Professor Edward Mendelson, --for several years he wrote the word processor reviews for the Ziff Davis publications and he still runs the WordPerfect Website -- might be of some guidance since Wpdos users are facing many of the same problems as those of the xylist who print directly from xywrite. It should be noted that he is the leading authority on the poet Auden and is Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia.

Subject: more recent printers then hp lj5 and wpdos5.1
Dear Edward
>I had mentioned in earlier emails that I have been creating my documents in
>xywrite and then converting them to wpdos5.1 to print them out. I never
>print in xywrite. I have hp laserjets 3,4, and 5. So far no printing
>problems.
>I noticed recently when I was browsing in J&R that many printers had
>warnings that they were not compatible with dos or that dos was not listed
>as an operating system that they work wiith. I assumed from this that they
>would not work with dos. Is a realistic to be concerned that wpdos5.1 will
>not be able to work with newer printers when my printers die. Should I
>start to think about getting a new printer soon and if so what should I be
>looking at. I have always had good experience with hp and given my druthers
>I would buy hp if it was only a $100-$200 more than comparable printers.
