What about a blank screen? 437 or 850 there? Because what you're
reporting now is normal; that's what I get too: a DIR screen is
apparently the same as expanded mode for Language value purposes.
But you say that before you CHCP'd at the Command prompt, it used to
report LA=437, even with a file open? Now that I do not get, on any
version of Windows, all of which are currently with the DOS default
of 437. That is, CHCP at a command or cmd prompt reports 437, but Xy
gives LA=850, unless I'm looking at a dir or am in Expanded Mode.
I'm not sure about the sequence and debugging skeins. There have been
many posts on this. I get 850 now when I'm supposed to get 850: open
file and blank screen. Along the way I made two assumptions that may
have been faulty: to wit, U2's "Accents" would not give me what I
wanted without 850, and that perhaps one had to change modes at the
command prompt [chcp] before 850 would work in XY. I'm
learning quite a bit here along the way. And over the break I'm
going to look more closely at some of the other related code page
routines in U2.
