Doug Beeson has had problems downloading my xxbug-encoded
utilities for saving and calling files in non-XyWrite formats.
When he ran debug, he got an error on every line. Anybody else
have that problem?
I have downloaded the file both from our news group and from
within my Notes server at work. Everything worked fine.
Answer to Doug: the space at the beginning of certain lines is
OK.
Tips in general: -- Don't download the file using a program that
inserts hard returns. The file should end up on your hard disk
as received.
-- The syntax is DEBUG < filename, where filename is the name of
the file you created and edited to contain just the debug code
(all the stuff between the CUT HERE lines).
-- I've gotten error messages when running debug (I forgot to
strip out the extraneous info) but the program managed to decode
the file anyway. (Doug: is it possible you gave up too soon?
Maybe IN_OUT.ZIP is already on your hard disk?)
-- Once you've created the specific program(s) you want, you can
load them onto keys (assign &x to a key in the keyboard file,
where x is any letter or number; then in your Startup file,
enter the line BX ldpm filename.pgm,&x Q2;*;
(BX and Q2 are function calls. Use your filename and key
assignment).
When you want to do a save-as, just put the output filename on
the command line and hit you programmed key.
Doug (sorry to address you publicly; I forgot to take your
address to work): Please try again to download and process the
file. I suppose it's possible the file got corrupted on its way
to your machine, but I'd like you to try anyway. I will try to
mail you a diskette soon, just in case. But if you succeed
within the next couple of days, let me know either at this return
address or at tbaehr@xxxxxxxx.
